Both originating from deep roots in Scandinavian craftsmanship, cabinetry, and design, Hee Welling and Gudmundur Ludvik share a common vision of creating and keeping their products as simple as possible, while still keeping comfort, functionality, and aesthetics in mind. Hee Welling was born in Jutland, Denmark and grew up in his father’s shop helping create cabinets. It was here he developed his passion for furniture design, which was further explored when he attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts to study furniture design. Similar to Welling, Gudmundur Ludvik was born in Reykjavik, Iceland and grew up working as a carpenter and cabinetmaker. He attended the Icelandic Academy of Arts to study Sculpture, and later completed his formal education at the Danish Design School in 2002 where he met Welling. In 2010, they joined efforts to create Welling Ludvik, aimed at creating furniture with traditional Scandinavian roots while still being suitable for the present day market by using modern materials and production technology.
